After a couple of hours of torturing myself, I finally got it working. The procedure was about the same as in the case of Fedora 8, but even a little simpler. I installed ndiswrapper through sudo apt-get ndiswrapper-utils-1.9. After that I got my XP drivers for the wireless card on their website. Then I blacklisted [...]

UPDATE: this did not work for me in Ubuntu 8.04.
UPDATE: it did work, eventually. See next post.
